Bangkok (VNA/ NNT) - The Thai Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives is pushing for the making of a new generation of Young Smart Farmers who are to eventually become Smart Farmers.

Minister Chatchai Sarikalya disclosed that he has assigned the Department of Agricultural Extension to accelerate the development of a new generation of farmers by promoting the exchange of knowledge among farmers so that they can analyse problems, determine guidelines for the management and development of local resources and use local wisdoms, innovation and technology to increase values for their agricultural products, reduce production costs and increase competitiveness.

He stressed the necessary to form a new generation of Young Smart Farmers as the number of Thai farmers nationwide has dropped to 38 percent and their average age is over 50 years old.-VNA
