Thailand revokes passports of former PM Yingluck

Thailand has revoked the passports of former Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, who has yet to publicly emerge since she slipped out of the country two month ago.

Bangkok (VNA) – Thailand has revokedthe passports of former Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, who has yet topublicly emerge since she slipped out of the country two month ago.

Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai told reporters in Bangkok on October 31 thatYingluck had four passports – two personal and two diplomatic.

She was reported to be in the UK but not exactly which city, he added.

Thailand's deputy police chief SrivaraRansibrahmanakul said authorities are still working to confirm the formerpremier's location as they seek her extradition.

However, no country has replied about herpresence, he noted.

Thailand’s Supreme Court on September 27 imposeda five-year imprisonment on the former Prime Minister over charges ofnegligence in a rice subsidy scheme.

Yingluck did not show up at the court. Earlier, she failed to appear for herverdict on August 25. 

Thai police on September 5 publicised evidence showing that Yingluck had fledthe country.

Thailand’s authorities later issued an arrest warrant for the formerpremier.-VNA
