The Thai Cabinet has approved a disaster drill to be co-organised by Thailand and the Republic of Korea in 2013 under the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) on Asia-Pacific political and security cooperation.

Deputy Government Spokesman Phakdeeharn Himathongkham said on September 4 that the Cabinet meeting has nodded to the 2013 Thai-RoK disaster drill and a budget of 20 million THB to arrange the drill as requested by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This disaster drill within the ARF’s framework is scheduled every two years with the participation of 26 countries.

Simulated scenarios to be featured in the drill will include flooding, dam collapse, gas pipe explosion and giant wave. It will take place in Thailand ’s coastal province of Phetchaburi .

The drill is hoped to benefit Thailand in terms of its role in the international community and preparations for disasters in an emergency situation.-VNA
