- On development measures for southern border provinces, the Thai government is promoting the Triangle of Security, Prosperity, and Sustainability model to help end violent incidents in the region.

Thai Deputy Prime Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwan, president of the strategic committee on the development of southern border provinces, has chaired the first committee meeting this year to conclude the results of past development projects, and advance the materialisation of the government’s key policies on southern border province development.

The meeting was attended by the Minister attached to the Prime Minister’s Office Tewan Liptapallop, and officials from related agencies.

The meeting discussed the social, economic, and livelihood development in southern border provinces villagers, including the extension of the Triangle of Security, Prosperity, and Sustainability development model, urgent actions to alleviate villagers’ hardships regarding occupational land rights certification, a special economic zone development in Narathiwat, security development through the Subdistricts of Security, Prosperity, and Sustainability campaign, and compensation to victims of violence, including assistance to the family of Abdullah Isa Musa, and the establishment of a policy and administrative committee on compensation for victims of violent incidents in southern border provinces.

Gen Prawit Wongsuwan asked all sectors to join hands in the development of the southern border provinces to achieve the government’s set goals, which include an end to violent incidents in the area, and fast-tracking developments in all respects together. He said economic development will serve as a good mechanism, creating more jobs and opportunities for villagers./.
