Bangkok (VNA) – Thailand’s Naval Zone 2 force arrested three Vietnamese fishing ships with 33 fishermen on board for illegally entering and fishing on its territorial waters, the local Thai Rath newspaper reported on April 9.

The ships were seized offshore Nakhon Si Thammarat province in southern Thailand on the night of April 8. They are the KG93668TS, KG90635TS and one of unknown code. They are now detained in Songkhla province.

A source in Songkhla said three steermen went on trial on the morning of April 9. Crewmembers will have to give other testimonies over an allegation that they were forced to be on these ships.

Also arrested was a Thai vessel with 14 people aboard that carried 30,000 litres of oil to feed the Vietnamese ships.

Since the beginning of 2016, the Naval Zone 2 force has arrested 17 Vietnamese ships involved in illegal fishing.-VNA
