Bangkok (NNT/VNA) - The Open Budget Index, which measures the budget transparency of 115 central governments, revealed that Thailand had improved since 2015, when the country earned a score of 42 and a rank of 65.

In its 2017 report, Thailand scored 56 and ranked 37th.

The index takes into consideration three main areas, which are budget transparency, or the disclosure of information to the public, the level of public participation and the efficacy of organizations monitoring and auditing the budget.

Thailand's improvement was attributed to more comprehensive budget reports provided by the Bureau of the Budget and local administrations, as well as increased availability of information online.

The Kingdom's improved standing in the index reflects a significant increase in the transparency of Thailand's central budgeting and could have a positive influence on future surveys. - VNA
