Thailand to be free from AIDS in 2016
Bangkok, Jan. 18 (VNA/NNT) - Bangkok’s City Hall is working in collaboration with The
Thai Red Cross AIDS Research Centre and the Department of Disease Control to
transform Thailand
into an AIDS-free country by 2016.
Presiding over the AIDS-free campaign “Getting to
zero", Permanent Secretary for the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration Charoenrat
Chutikarn, said a seminar has been recently held for those involved in the
campaign to exchange ideas on how they could achieve the target.
According to Chareonrat, the seminar has already been held twice on January 9 and 16 and will take place again on January 26 and 30. The objective of this event is to reduce to zero the number of new cases, the HIV death toll, the stigma and discrimination against AIDS in the Thai society.
The topics of discussion will include a talk on the new
infection statistics across the demographic groups and the discrimination
against AIDS patients.
The ‘Getting to Zero’ campaign has been established following in the footsteps
of the United Nations and the World Health Organization. The campaign will
begin this year and run till the end of 2016./.
