Bangkok (VNA/NNT) - The Thai Ministry of Labour will hold discussions with related trade unions on opening restricted occupations for foreign workers.

Director-General of the Department of Employment Varanon Peetiwan said the ministry has collected public feedback on the current restrictions on 39 occupations.

Most of the opinions suggested that the government lift restrictions on occupations that are unappealing to Thai citizens, such as construction, brickwork, carpentry, waiting tables, agricultural transport, store clerks, gas station attendants, cashiers, and factory workers.

Varanon revealed that on September 26, his department will meet with various trade unions, such as associations for contractors, architects, industrial works, tourism, employers and employees, retail, and related government agencies.

They will discuss occupations that should remain reserved for Thai citizens and those that can be outsourced.-VNA
