Thailand has been selected to host the 44 th Asian and Pacific Coconut Community (APPC) COCOTECH Meeting and Coconut Festival on July 5-9, according to the National News Bureau of Thailand (NNT).

The meeting will be held in Koh Samui, Surat Thani province under the theme “News Technological Developments for a Sustainable and Competitive Coconut Industry”. Academics and delegates from various sectors will discuss technological developments on coconut production, uses of coconuts in processed foods and marketing strategies.

Over 5,000 delegates from 16 countries, including the Philippines , Indonesia , Malaysia , Sri Lanka , Papua New Guinea and Vietnam , are expected to attend the event. It will be held by the APCC and the Thai Government.

The NNT quoted Pisawat Buara, Director of the Horticulture Research Institute, Department of Agriculture , as saying that on the occasion of the meeting, the district of Koh Samui has designated a “Koh Samui Coconut Day” as well as a “Coco Night”, with the aim of attracting tourists to the area./.
