Thailand’s Kasikorn Research Centre has forecast the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) will expand 2.8 percent this year and 3 percent in 2016.

Pimonwan Mahujchariyawong, the centre’s Deputy Managing Director, explained that in the third quarter of 2015, the government's stimulus measures and tourism growth buoyed up the export sector, which saw poor performance.

The centre predicted Thailand’s 2015 export growth at minus 5 percent, revising down its previous projection of minus 1.7 percent. It cited the sluggish growth of China, a major trade partner.

The fourth quarter of this year mainly sees external risk factors, due to market volatility from the US Federal Reserve's decision not to hike its benchmark interest rate.-VNA
