Thailand’s frozen chicken will have a good chance of being exported to Japan after the country has been declared free from bird flu by Japan.
According to caretaker Deputy Prime Minister Yokol Limlemthong, the announcement was made on December 9 after the Livestock Department supplied additional information about the health of Thai chicken to its Japanese counterpart.
Thailand has been freed from bird flu for the past four years. However, there are mandatory steps which are required to be met before its frozen chicken can be exported to the Japanese market.
Earlier, Singapore has allowed import of frozen chicken from Thailand into the country after nine years’ ban since the outbreak of bird flu. Singapore has set one condition for the export of frozen chicken into the island state that is the birds must be raised in a close system or in compartment which is a new standard set by the Livestock Department to control bird flu.-VNA
