Thailand 's anti-government protest leader Suthep Thaugsuban has called a mass rally on January 13 to paralyze Bangkok , according to news agencies.

The rally will start at 9 a.m. that day, with stages set up at multiple intersections in the capital, Suthep was quoted by the Nation newspaper as saying. He also asked protesters nationwide to start preparations now.

Suthep earlier warned that following the New Year celebrations, protesters will take stronger actions to topple the Government of Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra and disrupt the general election slated for February 2.

In another move, the opposition Democrat Party will open talks on January 2 with different organizations and sectors of the society on how to reform the country, party spokesman Chavanond Intarakomalyasut announced on January 1.-VNA
