Beautiful images of mossy walls and small houses painted in ancient yellow seem to be a kind of specialty only to be found in the ancient town of Hoi An. But those images reappear in an ancient village in the heart of the capital.

Dong Ngac village (Bac Tu Liem district, Hanoi) has long been known as one of the oldest villages in Hanoi, for it has existed for more than 400 years. This village is famous for its studious tradition and it has many scholars with doctoral degrees, who got their doctorates in Chinese or Western education systems.

Over the years, the village still has about 100 old houses of different ages. Of those, there are old multi-room houses, which were built in 1605, with yellow paint. The houses also have high walls and roofs carved with dragons and lotus petals and precious wooden columns…

It is worth mentioning that most of those old houses are still preserved almost intact to this day./.
