Located in a small alley in District 3 of Ho Chi Minh City, Do Phu coffee shop used to be the “red address” of the Saigon Special Forces, which specialized in hiding cadres and stored weapons to prepare for the Tet Offensive in 1968.
Very few people know that underneath this classic coffee shop is a cellar that used to hold about 2 tons of weapons of Saigon Special Forces.
In 1968, a member of Saigon Special Forces named Tran Van Lai, with his wife and family, built 2 secret weapon cellars at their house located in the midst of enemy In Lunar New year of 1968, Saigon Special Forces took weapons from this cellar to take and captured the Independence Palace as well as many other important targets.
Nowadays, Do Phu coffee shop is the place to display many historical artifacts associated with Saigon Special Forces. This coffee shop is designed in classical style with many stylized features, giving visitors the opportunity to return to Ho Chi Minh City in the 60s and 70s.
