The glass bridge in Lai Chau - a magnet for thrill seekers

At the tourism site, visitors need to go through a tunnel and then take an elevator to reach Rong May Glass Bridge. It is 305 metres from the bottom floor of the elevator to the glass bridge, equivalent to a 102-storey building, including 80 metres underground and 225 metres above the ground. The elevator system, made from three layers of transparent tempered glass can carry 30 passengers at a time and 1,200 passengers per hour, bringing tourists to the glass skywalk to immerse them in the mountainous natural surroundings and admire the breathtaking natural scenery of the misty rocky mountains in the northwest region of Vietnam. This is the elevator that brings visitors from the mountain tunnel to Rong May Glass Bridge. The Rong May Glass Bridge tourism site, invested by the Hoang Lien Son Group Joint Stock Company (Sungate Group), is part of the Thac Trang (White Falls) tourism project in Son Binh commune of Tam Duong district, Lai Chau province. The site had its construction started in January 2018 and was built at a total cost of 1 trillion VND (41.8 million USD). Situated 758 metres above the bed of the gorge, Rong May Glass Bridge is 1.5 metres in width and 139 metres in length. Its components were produced in the US and imported into Vietnam. The skywalk reaches out about 50 metres from a rocky mountainous cliff. It is made from three layers of transparent tempered glass, each over 2 centimetres thick, assembled tightly together with special glue. The total thickness of the glass surface is 7 centimetres. The glass bridge, on the top of O Quy Ho Pass, consists of two sections – one that is 120 metres long connecting the elevator with the cliff and another 200 metres long running in parallel with the mountain slope. The pass, also known as Hoang Lien Son or May (Cloud) pass, that runs through Hoang Lien Son Mountain Range.
