Hanoi (VNA) – A book festival opened at Thong Nhat Park in Hanoi on April 20 as a highlight of the third Vietnam Book Day (April 21).
Deputy Minister of Information and Communication Nguyen Thanh Hung said this year’s Book Day will feature a series of activities to raise public awareness of the importance of books and promote reading culture in Vietnam.
They include book exchanges, seminars and exhibitions introducing more than 30,000 books from nearly 90 publishing houses.
A book publishing month is also running from April 1 to May 1 in response to the event.
April 21 is designated as Vietnam Book Day under Decision 284/QD-TTg issued by the Prime Minister on February 24, 2014.
The annual event aims to encourage and develop reading in the community, while raising public awareness of the significance of books not only as a source of knowledge, but also a way to develop one’s thought and personality.-VNA
