Over 15,000 book titles in numerous genres are on show during the Autumn Book Festival 2014 at the Vietnam Woman Museum in Hanoi from October 8-12.

Kim Dong, in coordination with publishing houses for women and youth, launched the festival on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of Hanoi’s Liberation Day (October 10, 1954-2014) and the 84 th anniversary of Vietnam’s Women’s Union (October 20, 1930- 2014).

The annual event aims to honour the cultural values and tradition of reading with a view to showcasing meaningful and interesting material for book lovers and providing opportunities for publishers to introduce new books directly to readers.

On the occasion, a number of books on Hanoi will be introduced, such as two memoirs of Hanoi during the 1930s and 1940s, presenting childhood memories of Hanoi just before and after the August 1945 revolution.

Notably, the book festival provides readers the chance to meet with famous authors and artists. A series of discussions on morals, values and community consciousness are being held for teenagers and young adults.

Moreover, small children can participate in a painting class with the famous painter and sculptor Philippe Legendre.

Last year’s event was warmly welcomed by the city’s book lovers, and introduced more than 4,000 book titles, with up to ten thousand copies of books for sale.-VNA
