Hanoi (VNA) - Three people were shot dead by insurgents in Thailand's southern Songkhla province.

The attack happened on November 25 afternoon when insurgents on motorcycles fired at a local market, killing two defense volunteers and an assistant village head.

Police said the insurgents deprived the victims of two M16 assault rifles and a pistol and fled.

Police said the insurgents might aim to create disturbance in the area and try to undermine security force confidence.

The insurgents were still unidentified. The incident is under investigation

Riots in southern Thailand have been a headache of the Southeast Asian nation’s authorities since a breakaway movement in three southern provinces has spread to neighbouring localities, claiming the lives of thousands of local people over the past decade.-VNA
