Three passengers arriving in Ho Chi Minh City from Liberia, one of the four countries hit by Ebola virus, are now in good health conditions in the isolation ward at the Tropical Hospital in the city, according to hospital source.
One of the passengers was detected to have a slight fever when entering Vietnam via Tan Son Nhat International Airport on September 10 evening. The man and his two travelling companions were immediately isolated and transferred to the Tropical Hospital for supervision.
The three were roommates in Monrovia, the capital of Liberia. Two of them are from the central province of Quang Nam, and the other from the neighbouring province of Quang Ngai.
The hospital said on September 11 that the first man no longer had a fever and none of the three showed symptoms of the disease. They are expected to be released from isolation in the next 24 hours if there is no symptom.
To prevent the spread of the deadly virus into the country, the Ministry of Health has worked with other ministries and agencies to closely monitor visitors to Vietnam at border gates and in the community to detect and quarantine suspected cases early.
So far, Tan Son Nhat International Airport has isolated three suspect cases, two are from Nigeria, while the Tropical Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City has quarantined six people returning from Ebola-hit regions.
Ebola, which is spread by close contact with an infected person through bodily fluids such as sweat, blood and tissue, has killed nearly 2,300 people in the current outbreak, according to the World Health Organisation (WHO).
