Hanoi (VNA) - The Hanoi People’s Court has sentenced three people to death for drug trafficking and transportation.

Nguyen Van Hoang, 41, a resident of Hanoi’s Hai Ba Trung district’s Thanh Nhan ward, was handed the death sentence on December 12 for drug trafficking.

According to the indictment, on June 27, police caught Nguyen Van Hoang while he was on his way to sell heroin in Hoang Mai district. Hoang was found to have more than 9g of heroin in his possession.

The police also seized over 720g of heroin while searching his house.

Hoang confessed that on the evening of June 24, a man came to Hoang’s house to offer his condolences upon hearing of the demise of Hoang’s father.

The man later suggested Hoang become a drug retailer for him, and Hoang agreed.

The man sold the heroin to Hoang at a price of 320 million VND (14,220 USD).

According to the deal, Hoang had to pay the man once he sold the drug.

He was, however, arrested on June 27.

In another case, Bo Thi Kim Thoa, 27, and Vu Ngoc Hoang, 24, from Hung Yen province, also received death sentences for illegally transporting the drugs.

During the trial on December 12, it was mentioned that Thoa had a friend named Duong Huu Tung.

In early March, Tung phoned Thoa asking her to receive a package containing drugs sent from abroad for which she would be rewarded handsomely.

Tung also called Vu Ngoc Hoang and asked him to coordinate with Thoa to go to Hanoi to get the package.

Hoang drove a car to take Thoa to Hanoi’s Cau Giay District Post Office to receive the goods.

However, when police stopped the car for checking, Thoa managed to get away. After hiding in Hai Phong city and Hai Duong province for about a month, she was arrested on April 7.

Hoang and Thoa illegally transported more than 7,405g of synthetic drugs, the court said.-VNA
