The Japan Coast Guard (JCG) on October 9 began search for three Vietnamese men who went missing from a Taiwanese fishing vessel off the coast of the northern Japanese prefecture of Hokkaido.

The coast guard said it received a report from Taiwan’s ship Hsiang Fur Far at night of October 8 that three Vietnamese crew members named Le Van Thuc, Thieu Dinh Thuong, and Nguyen Dinh Nga had jumped into the sea, around 12km off Shiraoi port of Hokkaido.

Right after being informed of the case, the JCG has deployed five ships and two planes for the search.

The Vietnamese Embassy in Japan is also coordinating with the JCG and parties involved to keep track of the situation.

The Taiwanese ship carried a total of 61 crew members, including 21 Vietnamese, 23 Filipinos and 14 Indonesians.-VNA
