Thua Thien-Hue (VNA) – The central province of Thua Thien-Hue plans to search for and repatriate martyrs’ remains in Laos even in the rainy season if it has sufficient information.

Additionally, the search and repatriation across the province will also be stepped up, said the province’s steering board for the search, repatriation and identification of martyrs’ remains at a meeting on June 13.

To prepare for the work in the 2019-2020 dry season, the board said it will accelerate dealing with the collected information about martyrs’ graves, making martyrs’ dossiers, and building the database for the search and repatriation at the communal, district and provincial levels.

The board said it will propose the Ministry of National Defence continue working with the Vietnam Veterans of America to gather information about martyrs’ graves in Phu Loc, A Luoi and Phong Dien districts.

It will also increase discussing with relevant agencies of Salavan and Sekong to devise the search and repatriation plan in the Lao provinces before September this year.

In the 2018-2019 dry season, forces of Thua Thien-Hue repatriated 18 sets of martyrs’ remains in Laos and 10 others in the province.

According to the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, Vietnam has nearly 1.2 million soldiers who laid down their lives in the wars defending the country and in international missions.-VNA
