Thua Thien – Hue (VNA) – A merry Christmas atmosphere is filling churches and parishes in the central province of Thua Thien – Hue.

The Binh Dien parish council welcomed the season with a number of study programmes for disadvantaged students.

Chairman of the council Philipphe Nguyen Linh said parishioners and benefactors have raised nearly 150 million VND (6,600 USD) to help 170 local children go to school.

Phu Cam’s parish council has encouraged people to promote education and poverty reduction in residential areas, said Chairman Nguyen Dinh Luc.

Religious dignitaries from the parish have raised nearly 220 million VND (9,680 USD) this year to support poor people and provide medical check ups.

Chairman of the provincial People’s Council Le Truong Luu on December 23 extended his seasonal greetings to dignitaries of the Hue Archdiocese.

Vice President of the Vietnam Catholic Church’s Episcopal Council, Archbishop Le Van Hong, thanked local authorities for facilitating religious activities.

He said Catholic followers and dignitaries promised to strengthen solidarity and make more contributions to local socio-economic development.-VNA
