Top 30 social impact businesses announced

Thirty outstanding social impact businesses (SIB) participating in the 2023 COVID-19 recovery programme was announced on August 3 by the Agency for Enterprise Development under the Ministry of Planning and Investment, the Global Affairs Canada, and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

Hanoi (VNA) – Thirty outstanding socialimpact businesses (SIB) participating in the 2023 COVID-19 recovery programmewas announced on August 3 by the Agency for Enterprise Development under theMinistry of Planning and Investment, the Global Affairs Canada, and the UnitedNations Development Programme (UNDP).

The winners will undergo intensive training and receive100 million VND (4,208 USD) each to reform their business models and products,and recover after the pandemic.

The programme forms part of the "LeveragingVietnam's Social Impact Business Ecosystem in Response to COVID-19"(ISEE-COVID) project that provides technical and financial support for SIB withfeasible business models and significant impacts on agriculture, tourism,education and health care.

The 30 were selected from 239 businesses nationwide,of which more than two-thirds have put women at the centre.

In his remarks, Deputy Minister of Planning andInvestment Tran Duy Dong noted that the 2021 support package has proveneffective as it has helped 31 SIB outline their business strategies integratedwith sustainable development factors like environment, climate change responseand social welfare.

Notably, the turnover of all the 31 has recoveredand increased from 2021, the official said.

Canadian Ambassador to Vietnam Shawn Steil laudedthe role of SIB in addressing social gaps and environmental issues, andcreating positive impacts in Vietnam.

They have generated jobs for vulnerable groups, promotedenvironmentally-friendly products, and increased values for products, he added.

UNDP Resident Representative Ramla Al Khalidi expressedher belief that the selected businesses will optimise benefits from theprogramme to develop and perfect their products and services./.

Domestic consumption up over 13%, tourism continues strong growth

The total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenues in August were estimated at 679.8 trillion VND (26 billion USD), up 1.6% from the previous month and 14.9% year-on-year. In the January-August period, the figure reached 5.24 quadrillion VND, representing a 13.3% increase year-on-year.

Hanoi moves to maintain appeal to FDI inflows

In the first eight months of 2026, the capital city attracted more than 3.7 billion USD in FDI, equivalent to 83% of the plan set for the year. Newly registered FDI exceeded 572 million USD across 450 projects, up 175.78% in project numbers and 209.46% in capital compared to the same period last year.
