“I would like to extend my deepest condolences to the all the families of the victims who are bereaved of their beloved ones. It is my hope that they will overcome the tragic consequences of the floods and storm,” the Party chief wrote in his message.
State President Nguyen Minh Triet, who is on Chile visit, extended his condolences to victims of the storm as well.
In his message dated Sept. 29, the State President also called for all people at home and abroad to share the difficulties of the people in the affected regions and help them to return to their normal lives as soon as possible.
At the opening session of the cabinet’s monthly meeting on Sept. 30, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, on behalf of the Government, expressed his sympathy to those who have had to endure unspeakable suffering due to the natural disaster.
The same day, the staff of the Governmental Office raised 120 million VND in support of the victims.
The Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam) has decided to allocate 3.5 billion VND in emergency aid to 12 provinces in the affected regions which felt the full brunt of tropical storm Ketsana, resulting in at least 38 fatalities and leaving 10 others missing.
The provinces of Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Thua Thien-Hue and Kon Tum along with Da Nang city will receive 400 million VND each. Quang Tri, Gia Lai and Dak Lak provinces, will receive 300 million VND each, and Quang Binh and Binh Dinh provinces, 200 million. Phu Yen and Lam Dong provinces will also be given 100 million each.
On Sept. 30, each staffer at the Office of the President contributed at least one working-day’s salary to help ease the pains the victims of storm.
The Vietnam Red Cross Society on the same day launched a campaign to call upon all individuals and organisations to give aid to the people in the areas where the storm has wrecked havoc.
The campaign will run through Oct. 2009./.
