National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung hosted a banquet at Van Mieu-Quoc Tu Giam relic site on March 27 for members of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) executive committee who are in Vietnam to attend the 132 nd IPU Assembly from March 28 to April 1.

The top legislator introduced the guests to the history of Van Mieu (the Temple of Literature ) and Quoc Tu Giam (Vietnam ’s first national university) – a special historical and cultural relic site in the capital city of Hanoi .

He said he was pleased that the IPU executive board has agreed on a number of important issues, particularly the theme of the assembly as “The sustainable development goal, putting words into action”, ahead of the opening ceremony.

The theme carries significant meaning and relevance as it carries a message on the contributions of the IPU and member parliaments to the building and implementation of new sustainable development goals, he said.

He expressed his belief in the success of event based on the rich experience of the IPU members together with the high sense of responsibility and thorough preparation of the host.

The guests were also treated to special music and water puppetry performances.-VNA
