Astana (VNA)National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan met with staff of the Vietnamese Embassy and representatives of Vietnamese people in Kazakhstan shortly after arriving in the capital Astana on October 16 for an official visit to the country.

Detailing her embassy’s activities, Ambassador Doan Thi Xuan Hien said the organisation of Vietnamese and Kazakh culture days in each other’s countries have helped enhance cultural exchanges and tourism cooperation.

Bilateral trade has been growing over the past years, from below 80 million USD before 2012 to more than 360 million USD in 2016, she noted, expressing her belief that as members of the Vietnam-Eurasian Economic Union Free Trade Agreement, their trade will keep rising and reach 500 million USD soon.

Chairwoman Ngan informed embassy staff and Vietnamese expatriates about the outcomes of the recent sixth plenum of the 12th-tenure Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee, the socio-economic situation since the year’s beginning, and preparations for the parliament’s fourth sitting in late October.

She affirmed that the Party and State support Vietnam’s overseas representative agencies to fulfill their duties.

The leader also applauded the solidarity of the Vietnamese community in Kazakhstan, asking them to continue complying with local laws and help tighten the two countries’ friendship.

The top legislator is on a three-day visit to Kazakhstan at the invitation of Chairman of the Senate of the Parliament Kassym Jomart Tokayev and Chairman of the Mazhilis (lower house) of the Parliament Nurlan Nigmatulin.

This is the first-ever visit to the Central Asian country by a leader of the Vietnamese parliament.-VNA
