Top Vietnamese chess player Le Quang Liem has risen four places, from No 33 to No 29, in FIDE’s world rankings for April.

Hanoi (VNA) - Top Vietnamese chess player Le Quang Liem has risen fourplaces, from No 33 to No 29, in FIDE’s world rankings for April.

HisElo rating also jumped from 2712 to 2726, the best Elo rating in Vietnamesechess history. (The Elo rating system is a method for calculating the relativeskill levels of players in competitor-versus-competitor games such as chess).

Liemwon the international chess tournament, HD Bank 2017, held in HCM City and theCollege Final Four held in the US.

Hiscareer best ranking was No 27 in April of 2013.

OtherVietnamese representatives Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son and Tran Tuan Minh ranked149th and 524th in the world, with Elo ratings of 2623 and 2534, respectively.-VNA

15 Vietnamese players compete at 6th ASEAN+ Individual Chess Championships

According to the organisers, this year’s tournament offers a total prize pool of 28,100 USD. The winner of the men’s standard chess category will receive 2,000 USD, while the women’s standard champion will take home 1,500 USD.
