Tourism reservations for the upcoming summer have seen a 20-30 percent increase from the same period last year, the majority of which will be domestic tourists, according to travel agencies in Hanoi.

Pham Van Bay from Viettravel said the company has seen a 30 percent increase of registered visitors compared with last summer.

For the first five months of 2015, more than 9,500 domestic travellers booked tours through Vietravel, a surge of 66 percent against the same period last year, Bay said.

Le Cong Nang from Vietrantour also highlighted the trend, saying summer travellers are seeking holidays in popular destinations such as Da Nang, Nha Trang, Phu Quoc and Hanoi.

In order to meet the increasing demand, local travel agencies are offering a wide range of preferential programmes, such as discounts up to 14 million VND (650 USD) for a number of summer tours.

Additionally, they have also expanded services to new sites, such as Co To island in northern Quang Ninh province and Ly Son island in central Quang Ngai province.-VNA
