Toyota to begin hybrid electric vehicle production in Indonesia in 2022

Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN) announced it will start production of hybrid electric vehicle in 2022 with two models of sport utility vehicles (SUV) and multipurpose vehicles (MPV).

Jakarta (VNA) – Toyota Motor ManufacturingIndonesia (TMMIN) announced it will start production of hybrid electric vehiclein 2022 with two models of sport utility vehicles (SUV) and multipurposevehicles (MPV).

At the Indonesia Electric Motor Show (IEMS) 2019 on September 4, TMMINPresident Director Warih Andang Tjahjono said the company will use existingproduction lines that will be modified to accommodate manufacturing of futurevehicles.

Priority will be given to the production of SUV and MPV in 2022, he said.

Toyota committed an investment worth 28 trillion IDR (nearly 2 billion USD)during 2019-2023, which includes developing electric vehicles for theIndonesian market. The company also targets export to Australia and SouthAmerica.

Earlier, Indonesian authority announced its aim to startelectric vehicle production in 2022 after receiving investments from largecorporations. The Industry Ministry is promoting the development of EV andbattery plants to form a supporting industry.

Indonesia targets 20 percent market share for electric cars by 2025. TheGovernment is outlining favourable tax policies for luxury cars, especiallyvehicles with low carbon dioxide emissions.-VNA
