State President Nguyen Minh Triet has asked the Mekong Delta province of Tra Vinh to tap into the full potential offered by its land and human resources and build an economic development strategy, with priority given to hi-tech projects.

Tra Vinh should also make use of national key projects worth dozens of billions USD, that are going to be implemented in the province, President Triet said while meeting with the local authorities on July 28.

The projects include the Quan Chanh Bo canal, a power centre in Duyen Hai district and the Dinh An economic zone, which analysts say could be the driving force that helps the province take off.

As a result, the most important thing for the province is to invest in human resources to meet development demands, stressed President Triet.

In terms of agriculture, President Triet asked the province to increase the quality of its seafood and agricultural produce as well as develop its dairy sector.

The State President commended the province’s achievements, including keeping an average annual economic growth rate of nearly 11 percent, paying attention to social welfare issues, developing education and the health care system and training key Khmer ethnic people./.
