Tra Vinh (VNA) – The Mekong Delta province of Tra Vinh on April 23 held a ceremony to present and posthumously award the certificates of the “Vietnamese Heroic Mother” title to 54 local women, of whom six have passed away.

Addressing the event, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Trung Hoang expressed gratitude towards the mothers and their families.

He highlighted the glorious traditions of Tra Vinh, as well as the contributions of the local Party Committee, army, and people to the victory of the struggle for national independence and reunification.

During the course of the two national safeguarding wars, a total of 20,000 Tra Vinh locals laid down their lives and later recognised as war martyrs. Meanwhile, 10,000 others returned from the war as wounded and sick veterans, along with 21,000 families and individuals with contributions to the national revolution.

Over the years, Tra Vinh has paid great attention to implementing support policies to families of those who have made contributions to the nation, including the building of houses, assistance in production, and employment provision.

A total of 3,327 women in Tra Vinh have been honoured as Vietnamese Heroic Mothers to date who have made numerous contributions and sacrifices for the cause of national liberation, construction, and defence. –VNA
