Electricity Company No. 2 will launch a power grid construction project to provide electricity for nearly 20,000 poor households, mostly of Khmer people, in southern Tra Vinh province.

An agreement to this effect was signed between the company and the provincial People’s Committee on August 7.

The project, which has a total investment of 226 billion VND, aims to increase the number of Khmer households equipped with electricity from 80 percent to 93 percent.

It will build 418 transformer stations with a total capacity of over 7,400 kVA at 83 communes in seven districts in the province.

Construction of the project is scheduled to be launched in the second quarter of 2009./.
