Vietnam and the UK established diplomatic relations on September 11, 1973. Vietnam's top leaders such as the General Secretary, the President, the Prime Minister, and the National Assembly Chairman visited the UK.

The British Prime Minister, Parliament’s leaders and the British Royal Family also visited Vietnam several times.

More than 40 years after the establishment of diplomatic relations, trade and investment cooperation is a bright spot in Vietnam-UK relations. Bilateral trade between Vietnam and the UK reached $6.7 billion in 2018, a 10 percent year-on-year increase.

Of the total, Vietnamese exports hit $5.7 billion, while its imports were $ 1 billion. The UK is the third biggest European investor in Vietnam, with investment projects worth $3.7 billion./.
