Hanoi (VNA) – As many as 96 people were killed while 110 others were injured in 144 traffic accidents over the first five days of the Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday, which began on February 2, according to the Ministry of Public Security.

The numbers represented decreases of 28.7 percent in cases, 38 percent in deaths and 26 percent in injures.

Up to 27 cases were reported on February 6 or the second day of the first lunar month, leaving 19 people dead and 23 others injured.

The traffic police force in localities have dealt with over 2,000 cases of violation, collected fines totaling 990 million VND (42,570 USD) and detained 415 vehicles.-VNA
