Traffic accidents rise in first half of 2013

A total of 5,514 road, railway and domestic waterway accidents were recorded across Vietnam in the first six months of this year, an increase of 193 cases over the same period in 2012.

The accidents claimed 4,913 lives, 255 more than the first half of last year. The number of injuries fell by 440 to 3,465.

In June alone, 2,439 accidents were reported, a decrease of 73 cases. They killed 792 people, a decline of 83, and left 2,511 injured, representing a drop of 174.

Of the total, the number of road accidents in June was 2,394, including six serious cases that claimed the lives of 25 people and wounded 33 others.-VNA
