Transport Minister Dinh La Thang met with State Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Transport, Construction and Urban Development Prof. Klaus Dieter Scheurle on August 16, as part of his visit to Germany which started on August 13.
At the working session, the two sides expressed their hope for increased cooperation between the ministries in the context that the two countries’ bilateral relations have developed and both governments signed agreements last October to establish a strategic partnership.
Scheurle said Germany is interested on Vietnam’s infrastructure development plans in order to become an industrialised country by 2020. Germany is willing to share experience and help Vietnam in that planning and encourage private investors to invest in Vietnam, he added.
Thang spoke highly of Germany’s strength as one of Vietnam’s important partners and proposed measures to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in the transport sector.
He also asked for an amendment of the protocol in aviation between the two countries to facilitate the establishment of the Hanoi-Berlin direct flights, while affirming that Vietnam will create favourable conditions for German investors to operate in Vietnam.
Thang and his entourage had working sessions with leaders of Siemens and the German Railway Joint Stock Company.-VNA
