Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has called for applying more scientific and technological solutions in transportation management and traffic control in order to better ensure traffic safety and order.

At a teleconference on January 27, Deputy PM Phuc, who is Chairman of the National Committee for Traffic Safety, commended 10 localities which recorded a decrease of over 20 percent in traffic accident fatalities, namely Quang Ninh, Ha Giang, Bac Kan, Ninh Thuan, Cao Bang, Nam Dinh, Ca Mau, Bac Giang, Da Nang and Lang Son.

Five others, including Quang Tri, Kon Tum, Vinh Long, Kien Giang and Ben Tre, were criticised for failing to reduce fatalities, as they suffered a traffic death rise by more than 10 percent.

The official asked for joint efforts to reduce the numbers of traffic accidents, fatalities, and injuries by 5-10 percent against 2014, and improve traffic jams at major cities.

He also requested ministries, sectors, and localities to work to ensure traffic safety and order during the upcoming lunar New Year festival, emphasising the need to intensify inspections over transportation business and infrastructure facilities.-VNA
