Tropical storm ‘Kalmaegi’ is forecast to enter the East Sea in the morning of September 15, becoming the third arising at the sea so far this year, according to the Central Meteorology Hydrology Forecast Centre.
Hoang Duc Cuong, Director of the centre said the storm is moving at a speed of 25km per hour. It will make a landfall at the Gulf of Tonkin at noon or afternoon of September 16.
At the night of September 16 or early September 17, Kalmaegi will reach northern region of Vietnam, packing wind of 89-117 km per hour, causing heavy rain in Quang Ninh province and Hai Phong city and other northern localities, he added.
On September 14, the Central Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Prevention held a meeting, chaired by its head Cao Duc Phat - Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, to discuss responding measures.
The Committee has coordinated with border guard commands in provinces from Quang Ninh to Binh Thuan to call back 70,809 fishing vessels manned by 298,574 people onshore.
Minister Phat asked authorised agencies and localities to continue informing boats operating in dangerous areas of the storm and instruct them to find safe shelters.
He also urged localities to stand ready for the storm, while applying measures to ensure safety to residents as well as construction works, avoiding loss in property and human.-VNA
