A ceremony to mark the 37 th anniversary of the liberation of the Truong Sa archipelago (April 29) was held in Sinh Ton commune, in Truong Sa island district, southern Khanh Hoa province on April 16.

Thirty-seven years ago, the Naval Forces of Vietnam launched attacks to liberate the islands of the Truong Sa archipelago, including Song Tu Tay, Son Ca, Nam Yet and Sinh Ton, contributing importantly to the Great Spring Victory in the South in 1975, bringing in the national reunification.

Speaking at the ceremony, Tran Son Hai, Vice Chairman of the Khanh Hoa provincial People’s Committee, urged the Truong Sa district administration to improve its capacity for protecting the nation’s sovereignty over its sea and islands and effectively implementing national target programs, in line with the Party Central Committee Resolution on “Vietnam's marine strategy to 2020”.

He also asked the district to improve the living conditions of local people as well as support and provide rescue services for fishermen at sea.

The Party and State have conferred many awards and distinctions on the local people and the armed forces of Truong Sa district for their achievements during the course of defence, construction, and development of their locality.-VNA
