Tu An Hieu Nghia sect convenes second Congress

More than 100 dignitaries and followers of “ Tu An Hieu Nghia ” (Four debts of gratitude) sect convened their second Congress for the 2015-2020 tenure in the Mekong Delta province of An Giang on July 24.
More than 100 dignitaries and followers of “ Tu An Hieu Nghia ” (Fourdebts of gratitude) sect convened their second Congress for the2015-2020 tenure in the Mekong Delta province of An Giang on July 24.

As a locally-originated religion, Tu An Hieu Nghiawas founded in 1867 by Ngo Tu Loi in the Bay Nui region of An Giangprovince. The religion has so far attracted tens of thousands offollowers, not only in An Giang but also from neighbouring localities,grouping followers into 24 units called “ ganh ”.

During the 2010-2015 tenure, its followers set up a charity board,raising about 3 billion VND to build houses, bridges and roads in poorareas.

From 2015-2020, they set the goal ofcontinuing to contribute to the new rural development cause, do charityfor the sake of the community and abide by the Party policies andState laws as well as teachings of its founder.

Addressing the Congress, deputy head of the Government’s Committee forReligious Affairs Tran Khanh Hung called on dignitaries and followers tostick to its tenets and contribute more to the homeland.

The congress, on the occasion, elected a 22-strong representativeboard led by Nguyen Huu Nghi to take charge of its 2015-2020 activities.

Tu An Hieu Nghia’s tenets are the combination ofthe principles of three religions – Buddhism, Confucianism and Taoism.The followers live and practise under the principle of learning fromBuddhist to cultivate virtue and morals and paying four debts ofgratitude, to one’s parents, country, three refuges - Buddha, Dharma,Sangha – and fellow citizens and all mankind.

During its inception, most of the followers were patriotic feudalintellectuals during the past resistance against the Frenchcolonialists.

Since being officiallyrecognised by the State in 2010, the religion and its authorities havestrengthened its system and helped the Party and State improve socialwelfare for followers and people living in the region.-VNA

Man gets life sentence for terrorism, anti-State activities

The People’s Court of Ho Chi Minh City on May 14 handed down life imprisonment to Dao Minh Quan on charges of “terrorism aimed at opposing the people’s administration” and “activities aimed at overthrowing the people’s administration”.

“I love my fatherland” journey 2026 launched

The “I Love My Fatherland” journey will comprise seven stages linked to historical, cultural and revolutionary sites across the country. The journey will begin in Nghe An on May 16 to mark President Ho Chi Minh’s birthday, before continuing through Hue city, Tuyen Quang–Lung Cu Flag Tower, Dien Bien, Khanh Hoa, Ca Mau and Ho Chi Minh City, and concluding in Hanoi in October.

Education ministry targets five digital technology incubators at universities

A key target under the new plan is the establishment of five digital technology incubators, or Deeptech Hubs, at universities and research institutes with strong potential. The education ministry also plans to launch a training programme for 1,000 outstanding technology entrepreneurs and develop criteria for selecting and supporting startup ecosystems within educational institutions.

Vietnam Customs expands capacity to tackle cross-border narcotics crime

Established in November 2025, the NTC comprises six officers from the Anti-Smuggling Investigation Sub-Department specialising in surveillance, intelligence collection and information analysis. The centre is tasked with strengthening customs capacity in risk assessment and drug crime targeting, helping authorities detect and prevent illicit cross-border trafficking of narcotics and other dangerous substances at an early stage.
