The northern mountainous province of Tuyen Quang has decided to invest 6.6 billion VND (317,000 USD) in displacing 166 households living in high-risk landslide areas, special-use and protective forests to safe places.

According to Ha Van Ngac, an official from the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the displacement aims to actively prevent natural disasters and ensure the safety of locals’ lives and property.

The provincial authorities will instruct localities to focus on creating jobs for relocated people so that they can normalise their lives as soon as possible, he said.

In addition, the province has also poured over 300 billion VND (14.5 million USD) into building stone embankments along the Gam river in Na Hang district and moving households living along the two banks of the river affected by the Tuyen Quang Hydropower Plant to safe places.-VNA
