The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) hopes that the two Koreas will address every issue they face through negotiations and cooperation, said a Republic of Korea (RoK) government official.

Lee Dong-Kwan, spokesman of the RoK presidential office, said that at a press briefing on the August 23 meeting between RoK President Lee Myung-bak and a high-ranking DPRK delegation, which was visiting Seoul to pay tribute to late President Kim Dae-jung.

The DPRK delegation conveyed a message from its leader Kim Jong-il to the RoK President, said Lee, who refused to unveil the details of the message.

In the 30-minute talks at the presidential office, President Lee Myung-bak confirmed consistent principles in the inter-Korean policy, the spokesman said, adding that the meeting took place in a sincere and open atmosphere.

"The meeting went very well," Secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of the DPRK Kim Ki Nam told reporters after the talks.

This was the RoK President’s first meeting with high-ranking DPRK officials since he took office in February 2008. The move is expected to warm up the inter-Korean relation after over one year of tension./.
