Two Russian tourists were found dead at Pham Van Dong beach, in Nha Trang city in the central province of Khanh Hoa, on February 12.

According to Chairman of the People’s Committee of Phuoc Hai ward Le Hang Nhat Tuan, the incident occurred at around 11am when the two men, born in 1947 and 1978, were washed away by strong waves.

Rescuers of the Nha Trang Bay Management Board were sent immediately to the scene, but strong waves hampered rescue work and the victims were found to be dead when brought to shore.

Their bodies were then taken to the provincial General Hospital for preservation. The local Department of Foreign Affairs is coordinating with relevant offices to identify the two victims and conduct procedures by regulation.

Strong waves often occur at Pham Van Dong beach, Vinh Hai ward. Warning boards on a swimming ban in Vietnamese, English, and Russian are installed along the beach, but many foreign tourists ignore the sign and swim there regardless. –VNA
