Twenty-five cyclists from the UK completed their 10-day, 1,500 km ride from northern Lao Cai province to raise funds for neonatal training in Vietnam in the central city of Da Nang on May 26 .
During their stop at the Da Nang Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital, the athletes met with nurses who will participate in an 18-month neonatal training programme from the UK's Canterbury Christ Church University (CCCU) that they sponsor.
Earlier, in addition to sponsorship from multi-national companies, the cyclists have personally raised 135,000 USD for the programme.
They also visited the Neonatal Pediatrics Department under the aforementioned hospital.
According to Pham Hung Chien, Chief of the Da Nang Health Department, the training will help raise standards of neonatal care in central Vietnam.-VNA
