Hanoi (VNA) - The United Kingdom stands ready to back Ho Chi Minh City in developing infrastructure, said new British Consul-General Ian Gibbons on July 21.

He made the statement at a reception hosted for him by Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Phong in the city.

Senior officials accompanied by businesses from the UK are scheduled to make two fact-finding tours of Ho Chi Minh City in the rest of this year to seek proper solutions to help the city develop its infrastructure.

The information was delivered after Phong said the city has been working to develop as a modern hub for trade, finance and education but along its path lies a number of challenges, for example, overwhelmed infrastructure, flooding and pollution.

The chairman said he hopes that the United Kingdom will share its experience in smart city building and management. He also vowed to provide all possible conditions for British enterprises seeking opportunities in the city.

Gibbons expressed his delight at the progress in the bilateral relations between the two countries in which Ho Chi Minh City has played a vital role.-VNA
