UK to help Indonesia develop infrastructure

UK Prime Minister David Cameron has pledged loans upto 1 billion GBP (1.6 billion USD) to Indonesian infrastructure projects during his meeting with Indonesian President Joko Widodo.

As part of his ongoing four-day Asian tour, Cameron arrived in Indonesia on July 27.

Accordingly,a sewage treatment system worth 400 million GBP in Jakarta andgeothermal power projects worth 66 million GBP will be invested in thenear future.

The UK Government hopes the financing for thelargest Southeast Asian economy can help increase Indonesia’s exports tothe UK to 200 million GBP.

According to Cameron, there arehighly promising opportunities for his country and Indonesia to forgelinks, especially in insurance, infrastructure development and services.

Heexpressed his hope to expand trade connections with other SoutheastAsian nations to reduce the country’s dependence on other Europeaneconomies.

The same day, the UK Prime Minister visited theHeadquarters of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations in Jakartaand met with ASEAN Secretary General Le Luong Minh.

The UK PM’svisit to Indonesia, Singapore, Vietnam and Malaysia aims to step upeconomic cooperation and bolster links between the UK and the SoutheastAsian region in countering Islamic extremism.-VNA
