Australian ultra marathon man, Patrick Farmer and a Vietnamese partner, will undertake an ultra-marathon along the length of Vietnam to raise funds for clean water projects for the underprivileged in Vietnam.
The ultra-marathon “Pole to Pole Vietnam ” programme was introduced in Ho Chi Minh City on December 6 by the Asian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Vietnam News Agency’s Culture-Sports Newspaper, Le Quy Duong Limited Company and Patrick Farmer (Australian adventurer).
Farmer and Mai Nguyen Dinh Huy are to start the run in northern Quang Ninh province on December 9 and come to the goal line in the southernmost province of Ca Mau, running through 30 provinces.
The event will highlight the 40 th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Australia and Vietnam, as well as introduce Vietnam’s image and culture to Australian and international friends.
Organisers said many athletes and local officials have registered to join the two runners in the race. Organisations and individuals wanting to take part can register by sending an email to poletopolevietnam@gmail.com.
Before coming to Vietnam for the marathon, Farmer completed an epic run of 21,000km from the North Pole to the South Pole, also for the goal of raising funds for sanitation and clean water projects.-VNA
