The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Vietnam on Nov. 13 granted 100,000 USD in support of students in flood-affected Central and Central Highland provinces.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Thi Nghia said that UNICEF’s support has a significant meaning as it will help the flood-hit students to swiftly return to school.

The money will be used to purchase school equipment and materials for around 11,000 students.

Jean Dupra, UNICEF deputy chief representative in Vietnam , pledged that the organisation will stand shoulder to shoulder with the ministry in responding to emergency cases.

The same day, Thai Ambassador to Vietnam , Pisanu Chanvitan, presented a donation of 50,000 USD to the Vietnam Red Cross to help restore and stabilise the lives of people in the Central and Central Highlands provinces which were ravaged by the two recent storms, Ketsana and Mirinae./.
