All of the United Nations agencies have responded by sending emergency support teams to Asia-Pacific countries stricken by deadly natural disasters, despite the current 64th session of the UN General Assembly being underway.

Within hours of the catastrophes occurring, the UN’s bodies and several non-government organisations began responding to the immediate humanitarian needs of the affected countries.

UN teams providing relief aid were deployed to Bhutan, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, the Philippines, Samoa and Tonga to support the domestic governments help millions of people hit by a relentless barrage of tropical storms, earthquakes and tsunamis./.
